#8 Devlog : Sprint 2 End


Sprint 2 End

Today we finish the end of sprint 2 . This sprint is the last real development sprint which means this week is the last week we add new gameplay elements. 

General:

We've added all our game elements and also replaced most of the placeholder at this point. Still some textures and animations are missing but they are not essential to be able to play/enjoy the game. Last week we got feedback about the movement so quite some changes where made to that. We have also added most of the sounds.

Art:

Level: 

The main asset lacking in the game was the floor textures. This week we aimed to have all the placeholders filled. This will make the level feel more alive . There are still placeholders missing like the spikes. They are marked with a red cube indication danger which still makes it playable. They will be replaced next sprint as they are not really needed to play the game. 

Animation:

 

We got the feedback that our level felt too static. We try to fix this problem by adding more animation. By adding these we aim to engage the player more with the level. We also added the throwing enemy of previous weeks . This one will also have animations and will move on his own to add a more dynamic feeling to the game.

Dev:

Movement:

The movement was the biggest problem we still had within the game. The problem being that you can get stuck on walls when moving towards a wall when already being in contact with the wall. This gives the game an annoying feeling as you always have to move in a way that will not get stuck . With this new system the player should be able to go where he wants without getting stuck in annoying places.

Sound:

We've added most of the sounds we plan to add . The sounds being : foot steps, shooting a cannon, slime getting hit sounds and a lever being used . These cover most of the gameplay elements we use . The main one missing now is sound for the enemy. 

Future:

Next sprint will be a polishing one. We won't add any new gameplay elements. We plan to still add the missing placeholders textures and animations . Particles is also something we are thinking of but it hasn't been decided if these will be seen in our game. The last missing sounds will also be added. Programming wise we wish to optimize code and fix bug where needed. Overall: make the game more enjoyable.
