#9 Devlog :Polishing phase


Polishing phase

In this last new phase we aim to improve the game as much as we can without actually adding new features. Game elements should keep their initial idea but be improved in such a way that it makes the features more fun. 

General: 

All but one textures are finished and have replaced their corresponding place holder. Character animations are also fully finished. Development wise the game got more smooth . We also aim to improve the quality of the visuals with some effects.

Animation:

The last character animation got finished and implemented this week. He adds a lot of dynamic feeling that the game really needs. We still lack a bit more of that but we aim to improve that even further. We also added smoke when the cannon shoots also to tackle the same problem. This will give a feeling of power when launching yourself which adds a lot to the fun factor. 

Effects:

Now that practically every textures is added , we will try to improve those textures to make them look even more beautiful. We Try to this with some post processing techniques. We got the feedback that the background was too noisy and not really in the background . So a kind of blur effect was added to that layer. We also added some subtle grain effect to further enhance the picture we are going for. 

Dev:

Camera:

The camera was something we really wanted to polish as we lacked some kind a world border. The camera can easily fill this job with an invisible wall. If you place an invisible, then the problem is usually that the player feels cheated because he didn't expect that he couldn't move further. With a camera border the world feels likes it has an edge and the player won't feel cheated. 

UI:

  UI has been polished both texture and dev wise. The textures are there to give that extra feeling of polish when playing . They increase the overall look of the game in general. The Highscore menu now also works correctly. This adds a competitive feature that an arcade game usually has  . 

Future : 

Next week is the last week of the polishing phase. We aim to further improve the textures and of course add the last placeholder still remaining(the level ending). Some gameplay features need more polishing and we wish to polish as much as we still can. One great example is the interacting with objects as it's not very clear to the player.
